The Moral Lessons of the Short Story "Sinigang" and its Impact to Me as a 21st Century Learner
The short story Sinigang, written by Marby Villaceran in 2001, tells the story of Liza, the main character, dealing with the issue of her father's extramarital affair with Sylvia, and consequently had a son named Lem.
The idea that can be drawn from the story "Sinigang" is that people are prone to making mistakes in their lives. There are some little errors, but they are frequently severe errors but in the end, you must be humble enough to own your mistakes and ask for forgiveness.
The story demonstrates wonderful moral principles, despite how difficult it is in reality, and the lesson I take away from it is that we all make mistakes when we do stupid things. If we can forgive others, we can learn to forgive ourselves in self-guilt circumstances as well and the story also teach us the value of having a firm foundation amongst family members, respecting, being strong, apologizing, and forgiving, especially to Filipino families who are going through the same problems as the story.
As a 21st Century Learner, the short story "Sinigang" has had a significant impact on me. I learned that we need to forgive others and go on, just as Liza forgives his father when he asks for forgiveness and moves on as if nothing has changed. It's sometimes difficult to do because of the suffering we've experienced as a result of what they've done, but we can't live in that pain indefinitely. We need to get on with our lives. Forgiving others isn't because they deserve it; it's because you deserve to be free of the agony they've caused you, to be able to move on and be happy.
